NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) \u2014 Antioch High School has gotten grant support from the Tennessee Titans \u2014 both on and off the field.<\/p>\n
After a challenging year, the team has stepped up to support the Bears.<\/p>\n
\u201cFootball, man \u2014 it\u2019s kind of a gateway into your next phase of life,\u201d AHS\u2019 head football coach, Arcentae Broome, said.<\/p>\n

The Bears had their best football season in over a decade, sending some seniors off to play at the college level. However, in January, tragedy struck when a shooting<\/a> on campus claimed one student\u2019s life, forcing the school into lockdown and shaking the community to its core.<\/p>\n Antioch High School Shooting | Continuing Coverage <\/a><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s something we have tried to put behind us and put past us,\u201d Broome said. \u201cYou know, I think our kids are very resilient.\u201d<\/p>\n Now, the Tennessee Titans have stepped in \u2014 not just with words, but with actions.<\/p>\n \u201cWe see them on TV \u2026 The giving back part is letting young people know that [the Titans say] \u2018Man, we\u2019re invested in what you do,’\u201d Broome added.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n This year\u2019s grants ranged from $1,500 to $5,000. The Tennessee Titans distributed over $100,000 in grants to 33 youth football organizations across Tennessee. Grants were awarded based on merit, need, and the organization\u2019s commitment to coaching education and best practices.<\/p>\n \u201cBeing able to try to make the game a little bit safer and more accessible is something that we are always interested in, and we\u2019re really happy to have them as part of our grant program this year,\u201d Vice President of Cause Marketing for the Tennessee Titans, Josh Corey, said.<\/p>\n But for AHS, the support went even further. The Tennessee Titans Foundation<\/a> donated 22 top-of-the-line helmets worth about $9,013, plus an additional $10,000 for various school projects.<\/p>\n \ud83c\udfc8 TITAN UP all season long with the latest news and notes on the Tennessee Titans<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cIt means that the players can play, and the coaches can coach, and they don\u2019t have to spend time worried about raising money,\u201d Corey expressed.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n That money will ease pressure on coaches and families, help cover equipment costs, ensure player safety and give Antioch\u2019s athletes one less thing to worry about.<\/p>\n \u201cHelmets were always a big thing,\u201d Broome said. \u201cHelmets have skyrocketed over the years, so in talking about that, I\u2019ve always thought that man, if we can get some help from somebody else other than what we normally get, then it would be good.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe could just wrap our arms around Antioch High School and really just kind of celebrate them and just acknowledge everything that the staff and the students and the teachers were able to accomplish during a very difficult year,\u201d Corey said.<\/p>\n With another football season on the horizon, Broome told News 2 that this shows his players there is a community huddling around them.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n \u201cThis is just one thing that you\u2019ve got to look at and say, \u2018There are people out there that really, really want to help make us better,’\u201d Broome said. \u201c\u2018They want to help to see us strive to higher heights and make our dreams come true.’\u201d<\/p>\n \u23e9\u00a0Read today\u2019s top stories on wkrn.com<\/a><\/p>\n
