While the Steelers are deep into a coaching search currently, they may benefit from looking for help in another department that would improve the team ahead of the 2026 season. The Steelers clearly lacked a reliable second wide receiver to take attention away from DK Metcalf in 2025. While the team does need a replacement for Tomlin, finding a WR2 should be on the list when it comes to needs entering the 2026 season.

Ashlee Rezin / Chicago Sun-Times

Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore celebrates after a touchdown during the first quarter against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Soldier Field on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2025

On Monday, Tom Dierberger of SI.com wrote that the Chicago Bears could look to trade wide receiver DJ Moore following their playoff loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Dierberger mentioned Moore, as well as several other players, but Moore really sticks out as a complementary piece to Metcalf in the Steelers’ offense. Moore finished the 2025 regular season with 50 receptions for 682 yards and six touchdowns.

“[Caleb] Williams’s costly interception in overtime against the Rams that targeted Moore would be a rough final impression of the veteran wide receiver’s career in Chicago if he’s moved, but it’s a possibility this offseason,” said Dierberger.

Moore’s 2025 numbers would have been good for second on the Steelers amongst the wide receiver unit, as Calvin Austin III had 31 receptions for 372 yards and three touchdowns. A second wide receiver was much needed for the Steelers as mentioned, as the offense struggled at times, especially in their 30-6 playoff loss at home to the Houston Texans.

Sebastian Foltz / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Calvin Austin III (19) celebrates in a 2025 game against the New York Jets.

Moore signed a four-year, $110 million contract extension with the Bears in 2024. He was a big asset to Chicago late in their 2025 season, but his last two years overall have been underwhelming. Moore collected over 1,600 yards in the last two seasons, but those two seasons followed a career-best of 1,364 yards for Moore in 2023. A change of scenery can often improve a player’s performance such as Moore’s.

Steelers’ Offense Needs To Improve Drastically Moving Forward

The Steelers’ offense is in need of improvement, as they struggled at several different times throughout 2025. In their playoff performance against the Texans, the offense did not find the end zone once. However, the Houston defense did post two scores in that game against the Steelers. While Houston’s defense was one of the best units in the NFL, the Steelers’ offense lacks what a lot of NFL offenses have. Their unit has not been innovative and often looks incompetent as it has failed to keep up with the league.

Geoff Stellfox / Getty Images

DJ Moore of the Bears takes the field during the NFL preseason 2025 game between the Bills and the Bears at Soldier Field on August 17, 2025 in Chicago.

Moore, a 28-year-old, is an eight-year NFL veteran originally drafted by the Carolina Panthers from the University of Maryland. Moore will turn 29 in April, but is still relatively young and definitely has upside. Pairing Moore up with Metcalf would not only open up Metcalf, but could do the same for Moore, as the pair of wideouts are very skilled at their position.

Those skills would be great in a Steelers offense that needs to get up with the times with the current state of NFL offenses. A lot of what the Steelers run is gimmicky and easy to shut down. The Texans proved that in the playoffs and sent the Steelers well on their way to a seventh straight playoff loss, which extended their playoff win drought to nine years.

Would you like the Steelers to trade for a skilled veteran wide receiver like DJ Moore?
