To Ty or not to Ty? That is the New York Jets\u2019 question.<\/p>\n

With Dante Moore returning to school<\/a> and Fernando Mendoza all but locked into the first overall pick, the quarterback-needy Jets are left with one realistic option in the first round of the 2026 NFL draft: Alabama\u2019s Ty Simpson<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The polarizing Simpson draws a wide range of opinions from fans and draft analysts. Some would love to see the Jets take him as early as second overall. Many see him as worthy of the Jets\u2019 16th overall pick but would consider him a reach if they were to take him at No. 2. There are others who don\u2019t even think Simpson justifies a first-round pick.<\/p>\n

Simpson, a five-star recruit from Tennessee, committed to Alabama while the Crimson Tide had future No. 1 pick Bryce Young as the starter and future third-round pick Jalen Milroe waiting in the wings. Simpson sat for three years, throwing just 50 passes before he finally got his chance to start in 2025 as a redshirt junior.<\/p>\n

Things started off red-hot for Simpson. Through his first five games as Alabama\u2019s starter, Simpson had racked up 15 total touchdowns to one turnover. He was getting buzz as a potential No. 1 pick.<\/p>\n

From there, nagging injuries and declining play caused Simpson\u2019s draft stock to plummet.<\/p>\n

But back in early October, Simpson was all the rage\u2014and today, we\u2019ll break down what made him so intriguing through that point of the season.<\/p>\n
