According to multiple sources, the Longhorns have signed Coastal Carolina’s MJ Morris. A rising\u00a0redshirt senior with one remaining season of eligibility, Morris has never been a full-time starter but has thrown for 2,021 yards and 20 touchdowns with 15 interceptions on 186-of-320 passing in a four-year career that includes two seasons with North Carolina State and one with Maryland.<\/p>\n
In 2025, he appeared in four games for Coastal Carolina and threw for 304 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions.<\/p>\n
Texas coach Steve Sarkisian<\/a> and his staff hope Morris can provide the same kind of presence as Matthew Caldwell<\/a> did this past season. A part-time starter in his previous four collegiate seasons, Caldwell threw just 11 passes in eight appearances in 2025 but did show veteran poise when needed; in the Longhorns\u2019 45-38 overtime win against Mississippi Stat<\/a>e, Caldwell came in for a banged-up Manning and threw the winning touchdown to Emmett Mosley V.<\/p>\n The Texas quarterbacks room also includes redshirt freshman KJ Lacey<\/a> and incoming five-star freshman Dia Bell<\/a> as well as walk-on Luke Dunham<\/a> from Austin\u2019s McCallum High School. Lacey drew praise from Sarkisian and coaches but only attempted one pass in 2025.<\/p>\n Manning, a rising redshirt junior, will enter his fourth season at Texas and his second as the starter.
