The four games were up 5% from last year.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the increase can be attributed to a change in the way viewers are counted. Nielsen began using its <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nielsen.com%2Fnews-center%2F2025%2F2025-the-media-rating-council-accredits-nielsens-innovative-big-data-panel-national-tv-measurement%2F%23%3A~%3Atext%3DNielsen%2520is%2520the%2520first%2520accredited%2Csaid%2520Karthik%2520Rao%252C%2520Nielsen%2520CEO.&amp;data=05%7C02%7CJReedy%40ap.org%7Cac055d3889084538cb2108dddf367c66%7Ce442e1abfd6b4ba3abf3b020eb50df37%7C1%7C0%7C638912147302469917%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=Q9UpatTN7WnANY3urUEYX%2FUUgqEtCXxdr2jcuhUvGgE%3D&amp;reserved=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Big Data + Panel<\/a> methodology for all events last September with the start of the current television season.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Nielsen began measuring out-of-home viewers for all states but Hawaii and Alaska, along with including data from smart TVs along with cable and satellite set-top boxes.<\/p>\n<p>Nielsen previously measured only the top 44 media markets, which covered 65% of the country.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday night\u2019s overtime thriller between the Los Angeles Rams and Chicago Bears led the way, averaging 45.4 million viewers on NBC. The audience peaked at 52.6 million in the game\u2019s closing minutes.<\/p>\n<p>The <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/rams-bears-score-8e97bcf5c6bdfa7510cf31d744b94955\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rams\u2019 20-17 victory<\/a> was the most-watched divisional playoff game for NBC, surpassing the previous mark of 41.1 million in January, 1994, when Joe Montana and the Kansas City Chiefs defeated Warren Moon and the Houston Oilers.<\/p>\n<p>It also was the most-watched prime-time event since last February\u2019s Super Bowl on Fox.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/denver-broncos-buffalo-bills-score-playoffs-06db9c892a27dd854e25ece79d4671f1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Denver\u2019s 33-30 overtime victory over Buffalo<\/a> on CBS set the mark for the most-watched Saturday NFL playoff game, averaging 39.6 million. It peaked at 51.28 million during overtime.<\/p>\n<p>The previous Saturday record was 37.54 million for a Green Bay-San Francisco divisional round game in prime time on Fox two years ago. <\/p>\n<p>The previous high for the Saturday early window was 35.60 million for New Orleans-San Francisco on Jan. 14, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The Broncos\u2019 win over the Bills was also the most-watched Saturday telecast on any network since the 1994 Winter Olympics on CBS averaged 40.82 million in prime time on Feb. 19.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday afternoon\u2019s AFC game between Houston and New England averaged 37.97 million on ESPN, ABC and ESPN Deportes, the most-watched event in ESPN\u2019s nearly 37-year history. It also stands as the most-watched telecast on a Disney-owned network since 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/texans-patriots-score-maye-vrabel-5b6a88ac639993cc99af286f5ca90e68\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Patriots\u2019 28-16 win<\/a> peaked at 44.9 million viewers late in the second half.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/49ers-seahawks-score-nfl-playoffs-3506f03e56bc12adbb770dbc95c5e2a7\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Seattle\u2019s 41-6 rout of San Francisco<\/a> averaged 32.1 million on Fox.
