I was fortunate to be mentored by men who believed football was a classroom. They taught me discipline, accountability, and how to lead young men with both toughness and compassion. They showed me that preparation matters, details matter, and relationships matter most. Some of those coaches are no longer with us, but their voices still echo in my head every time I plan a practice, address a team or face adversity. I also learned from leaders outside of football who modeled integrity, servant leadership and the importance of doing things the right way, even when no one is watching.<\/p>\n I\u2019m also incredibly grateful for the current coaching staff at CBA. This award belongs to them as much as it does to me. These coaches have poured countless hours into our athletes, demanding excellence while caring deeply about who they become as young men. The coaches spend countless hours away from home, dedicating their time watching film, implementing off-season\/in-season plans, as well as developing the personal relationships needed to earn trust within the team. They challenge me daily, bring energy, loyalty and expertise, and they believe wholeheartedly in our mission. Our success is a direct reflection of their commitment to our players, our program, and each other. I\u2019m proud to stand beside them and call them colleagues and Brothers.<\/p>\n Most importantly, I need to finish with my family. None of this is possible without their sacrifice. They\u2019ve given up evenings, weekends and quiet moments so I can do what I love. They support me through long seasons and they keep me grounded when football feels overwhelming. They remind me who I\u2019m coaching for and why it matters. Their love, patience and belief in me mean more than any award ever could. And then there is my father and grandparents, who are no longer with us. Although they passed away before the recent success we have seen, I know that they are still with us, supporting and cheering us on every week.<\/p>\n What is your favorite sports memory from this season? My favorite sports memory from this season is the build of the season. It\u2019s the journey that this team has taken that makes me appreciate this season. It started long before our game days. It began in the weight room, the classroom and on the field, working together. The late nights and early mornings were the days we created the foundation and expectations for this team. Where habits were built, accountability was demanded and standards became non-negotiable. Watching this team commit to doing things the right way \u2014 showing up on time, pushing through tough workouts, competing with purpose and showing perfect effort \u2014 helped set the tone for everything that followed. <\/p>\n They didn\u2019t just train their bodies; they trained the standard. That mindset carried over to the practice field, where growth was visible every week. Players bought into their roles, leaders emerged, and the team learned how to handle adversity without flinching. The culture became player-driven, the chemistry became real and the belief became unshakable. You could feel that this group was different \u2014 not because of talent alone, but because of trust, toughness and togetherness. The end result \u2014 13 straight wins and another NYS Class AA Championship was special. But what made it unforgettable was knowing how it was earned. Every rep in the weight room, every moment of focus in the classroom, every hard practice and every sacrifice along the way showed up when it mattered most. That\u2019s why this season will always stand out. It wasn\u2019t just about winning a championship \u2014 it was about building something the right way, together, and watching it reach its highest possible level.<\/p>\n If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would it be? No, I would not trade places with anyone. I\u2019m proud of who I am and the journey that brought me here. Every experience \u2014 successes, failures, lessons learned \u2014 has shaped my character and strengthened my perspective. My growth as a person and a professional didn\u2019t happen by accident; it came from hard work, accountability and a willingness to keep learning and improving. <\/p>\n I\u2019m especially proud of my family. They ground me, challenge me and remind me daily of what truly matters. Their support and love are constants that no other life could replace. Just as important are the people I choose to surround myself with \u2014 mentors, colleagues, friends and coaches who push me to be better and hold me to a high standard. They reflect my values and reinforce the standard I strive to maintain. So while there are plenty of people to admire and learn from, I wouldn\u2019t trade my identity for anyone else\u2019s. This life, these relationships, and this growth are mine and that\u2019s something I take great pride in.<\/p>\n What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? My favorite quote comes from the movie \u201cMiracle\u201d \u2014 \u201cGreat moments are born from great opportunity.\u201d This quote resonates because it re-frames the concept of pressure as a privilege. In the movie, coach Herb Brooks isn\u2019t promising victory \u2014 he\u2019s reminding his team that moments don\u2019t magically appear. They are earned, created by preparation, sacrifice and belief long before the spotlight turns on.<\/p>\n What makes the quote timeless is its honesty. Not everyone will seize the opportunity, but everyone is given one. The difference between ordinary and unforgettable is the willingness to rise when the moment demands it. For athletes \u2014 and especially for teams \u2014 it\u2019s a reminder that the work you put in when no one is watching is what allows you to stand tall. This quote lives far beyond the world of hockey.
