Wyandotte County leadership has \u201cless than a month to decide whether it splits the bill\u201d on the Chiefs\u2019 proposed $3B stadium<\/a> in west Kansas City, Kan., and it is \u201cnot clear how much money the local government\u2019s willing to put on the table,\u201d according to Sofi Zeman of the K.C. STAR. Officials\u2019 decisions will determine \u201chow new sales tax revenues generated in businesses across the entire county will be used for the next few decades\u201d — whether that money will be used to \u201cpay for local public services as anticipated,\u201d or if it will instead be used to \u201cpay back the debt used to build a new stadium.\u201d The \u201chigh-stakes call\u201d comes at a time when county leaders have \u201cpublicly admitted that the local government is having serious financial problems,\u201d and when residents have \u201crepeatedly told their leaders that it\u2019s hard to afford county property taxes.\u201d Although the state has said that it would \u201cchip in\u201d $2.7B for the project through those bonds, Wyandotte County \u201chasn\u2019t formally decided whether it\u2019ll play ball and help cover that bill like the Chiefs and state officials have asked it to.\u201d The vote on local sales tax revenues has a Feb. 20 deadline (K.C.
