The NFL is handing down its punishment decision for a Buffalo Bills player involved in a late hit on Bo Nix.<\/p>\n
Josh Allen<\/a> and the Buffalo Bills<\/a> are officially in the offseason, following their loss<\/a> to the Denver Broncos<\/a> on Saturday, January 17, with a 33-30 overtime loss<\/a> on the road at Empower Field at Mile High. On the Broncos side of things, even though they won the game, they lost their franchise quarterback Bo Nix to an injury late in the game, and he won\u2019t be able to participate in the rest of the team\u2019s season.<\/p>\n Following the Broncos\u2019 win, head coach Sean Payton started his presser with \u201cnot good news\u201d and said that Nix had fractured his right ankle three plays before Wil Lutz kicked a 23-yard field goal in overtime to give the Broncos the win. He was positive about it, but it\u2019s hard to sugarcoat<\/p>\n \u201c[Nix] is a tough cookie,\u201d Payton told reporters<\/a>. \u201cI said, \u2018Listen I believe you\u2019re the second quarterback in his second year to take his team to the (conference) championship game and the first is Mahomes.\u2019 \u2026 We\u2019ll rise up for the next challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n Now, the NFL<\/a> is handing down a punishment to the Buffalo Bills player who took a late hit on Nix in overtime. They\u2019re throwing the book at him, too.<\/p>\n Buffalo Bills Player in Hot Water With the NFL<\/p>\n Every week during the season, the NFL hands down punishments to players for actions that took place during the previous week\u2019s games. The NFL states on their official website<\/a> that these actions are \u201cto protect players from unnecessary risk and preserve competitive balance and game integrity.\u201d Before the season begins, the NFL and NFL Players Association agree on the set of game-related rules violations that result in these accountability measures.<\/p>\n On Saturday, January 24, the NFL announced<\/a> that they\u2019re punishing Buffalo Bills defense end Joey Bosa for\u00a0his actions in the Broncos game. The league is fining him $17,389 for his late hit on Nix at the 6:09 mark in overtime.<\/p>\n The week\u2019s largest fine went to Deommodore Lenoir of the San Francisco 49ers<\/a> for his \u201cuse of the helmet\u201d and \u201cunnecessary roughness\u201d during the team\u2019s game against the Chicago Bears.<\/p>\n If Bosa wants to appeal the fine, he\u2019s allowed to appeal it. According to the NFL, \u201cCases are heard by appeals officers and former NFL players, Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster or Jordy Nelson, who are jointly appointed and paid by the NFL\/NFLPA. The decisions made are final and binding.\u201d<\/p>\n Most players just decide to just comply. If they do, funds raised from gameday accountability fines go to the Professional Athletes Foundation<\/a> to \u201csupport legends in need and the NFL Foundation<\/a> to further support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game.\u201d<\/p>\n Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh Allen Up for MVP<\/p>\n In good news, on Thursday, January 22, the NFL announced that Allen is up again for MVP. However, he\u2019s not favored to win.
