The Miami Dolphins are becoming Green Bay South quickly. This offseason, they hired Jon-Eric Sullivan, the Packers\u2019 former vice president of player personnel, and Jeff Hafley, Green Bay\u2019s former defensive coordinator, to be the team\u2019s new general manager and head coach, respectively. Beyond that, the Dolphins have also signed a former Packers player and added a pro scout from Green Bay<\/a>, too.<\/p>\n

So it was within the realm of possibility that maybe Hafley\u2019s new offensive coordinator, who would be a play-caller since Hafley comes from the defensive side of the ball, would come from the Packers, too. A few names who had been floated around for that job were offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich, passing game coordinator Jason Vrable and quarterback coach Sean Mannion, who is currently coaching as an offensive coordinator at the East-West Shrine Bowl<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Yes, Green Bay could have blocked Stenavich from leaving, but that\u2019s not really head coach Matt LaFleur\u2019s way of treating the position. LaFleur was allowed to leave the Los Angeles Rams, where he was a non-play-calling offensive coordinator under Sean McVay, for the Tennessee Titans, where he was a play-caller, the year before he was hired as the Packers\u2019 head coach. Generally, he pays that forward with his assistants.<\/p>\n

When his first offensive coordinator, Nathaniel Hackett, left to be a head coach, Luke Getsy was his first choice to be Hackett\u2019s replacement. LaFleur could not offer Getsy a play-calling opportunity, though, so he allowed Getsy to walk and sign with the Chicago Bears, who did have a position open for a play-calling offensive coordinator. Hence, the pivot to Stenavich, who is now the longest-tenured offensive coordinator in the NFL.<\/p>\n

Stenavich was allowed to interview with the Seattle Seahawks for their play-calling offensive coordinator vacancy last offseason, too. If Hafley wanted Stenavich (or Vrable or Mannion, for that matter), he probably could have had them.<\/p>\n

Instead, Hafley hired Bobby Slowik, son of former Packers coach Bob Slowik (2000-2004), who had previously worked in the coaching tree that the Packers operate in. Slowik was with LaFleur and co. in Washington from 2011 to 2013 before reemerging with Kyle Shanahan in 2017 in San Francisco. After advancing through the ranks with the 49ers, Slowik served as the Houston Texans\u2019 offensive coordinator from 2023 to 2024 and ultimately landed in Miami, where he worked under Mike McDaniel, who has previously collaborated with both LaFleur and Shanahan. Slowik held the title of pass game coordinator in 2025.<\/p>\n

So far, no coach poaching from Hafley. With that being said, he hasn\u2019t yet named a non-play-calling defensive coordinator under him. The Packers have two defensive assistants who have prior NFL experience as defensive coordinators in defensive line coach\/run game coordinator DeMarcus Covington and pass game coordinator Derrick Ansley. Maybe they\u2019re options.<\/p>\n

Sean Duggan, who was promoted to the Packers\u2019 linebackers coach position this year after the Jacksonville Jaguars poached Anthony Campanile to be their defensive coordinator, also has deep ties with Hafley. Duggan was Hafley\u2019s first linebackers coach at Boston College and was one-half of the duo of co-defensive coordinators who replaced Tem Lukabu, Hafley\u2019s first defensive coordinator at BC, who left to jump into the NFL ranks a year before Hafley did. Lukabu is currently serving as Campanile\u2019s linebackers coach, so he\u2019s available to interview for Hafley, too.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Miami Dolphins are becoming Green Bay South quickly.
