The San Francisco 49ers<\/a>‘ slow offseason heated up after the NFL draft when they dished out big-money extensions to tight end George Kittle, quarterback Brock Purdy and linebacker Fred Warner.<\/p>\n

A projection from ESPN indicates the brief pickup in activity is where things will end for the 49ers’ maor offseason business.<\/p>\n

There will be additional roster tweaks leading up to and through the preseason, but ESPN’s Matt Bowen left the 49ers out of a piece listing the best fits for remaining free agents<\/a> and top trade candidates.<\/p>\n

Despite investment via the NFL draft, the 49ers could still use depth on the defensive front, cornerback and wide receiver. Free agent edge rusher Za’Darius Smith is projected to return to the Detroit Lions<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wide receiver Keenan Allen would make sense, but Bowen paired him with the Arizona Cardinals<\/a>. WR Amari Cooper could also help, but he’s projected to return to land with the New York Jets<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. is a really intriguing young player the 49ers could add to help their secondary. Bowen matches him to the Miami Dolphins<\/a>, who could aim to trade former All-Pro defensive back Jalen Ramsey. Ramsey’s best fit is the Los Angeles Rams<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He also has disgruntled Cincinnati Bengals<\/a> pass rusher Trey Hendrickson fitting best with the Green Bay Packers. It makes sense the 49ers wouldn’t be in on that kind of deal since Hendrickson is seeking a sizable contract extension going into his Age 31 season.<\/p>\n

A Hendrickson deal may not be on the table, but the rest of those free agents would likely come at affordable rate this late in the calendar. With more than $42 million in cap space<\/a> according to Over the Cap, the 49ers have plenty of room to bring in a player on a one-year deal to provide some quality depth at key spots. Don’t be surprised if there’s another notable signing or two closer to training camp.<\/p>\n
