The move comes after Cuyahoga County executive Chris Ronayne replied to a letter from the Browns that stated they were \u201cmoving forward with the Brook Park project with or without help from the county.\u201d Ronayne\u2019s reply \u201cwelcomed them to do so.\u201d In his reply, he \u201creferred to the project as a \u2018boondoggle.\u2019\u201d In a Tuesday interview, Mayor Justin Bibb \u201crealigned the priorities regarding the team.\u201d He said, \u201cThere are more important priorities than the Cleveland Browns.\u201d Developing Cleveland\u2019s lakefront along with a proposed $1.1B remake of Cleveland Hopkins International Airport \u201ctop that list.\u201d Bibb, though, \u201cwas resolute\u201d in suggesting there is \u201clikely a price to be paid\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beaconjournal.com\/story\/sports\/pro\/browns\/2025\/05\/21\/cleveland-browns-stadium-news\/83767165007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.beaconjournal.com\/story\/sports\/pro\/browns\/2025\/05\/21\/cleveland-browns-stadium-news\/83767165007\/\">AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 5\/21<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-facilities \">CHOICE MADE: In Cleveland, McDonnell &amp; Exner wrote the region\u2019s chamber of commerce has \u201csat on the fence\u201d on the Browns\u2019 stadium efforts \u201cuntil now.\u201d According to the letter, a \u201cmain reason\u201d for endorsing it now is the GCP says that a covered stadium \u201cwould attract two-to-three times more visitors.\u201d GCP President &amp; CEO Baiju Shah said that the organization \u201cspent months researching the stadium debate\u201d and \u201cworking with local stakeholders.\u201d Now that the state has shown it is \u201cwilling to help foot the bill,\u201d Shah said that the chamber of commerce \u201cfelt it was finally time to weigh in publicly.\u201d The GCP\u2019s research \u201cshowed a covered stadium, or dome, outperformed open-air stadiums.\u201d Shah said that \u201cheight restrictions and a lack of land made that infeasible downtown.\u201d The GCP is \u201calso clear\u201d that Cleveland and the lakefront \u201cshould receive money from this deal, both from revenue generated by the stadium and the Browns themselves\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cleveland.com\/news\/2025\/05\/greater-cleveland-partnership-endorses-browns-brook-park-stadium-sides-against-cleveland.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.cleveland.com\/news\/2025\/05\/greater-cleveland-partnership-endorses-browns-brook-park-stadium-sides-against-cleveland.html\">Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 5\/20<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-facilities \">WHAT DID IT COST? McDonnell in a separate piece wrote Cleveland and Cuyahoga County are \u201csevering their ties\u201d with the GCP, now that it has endorsed the plan to build the Browns\u2019 future stadium in Brook Park, rather than downtown. In the letter from Tuesday, Bibb and Ronayne said that the GCP\u2019s decision to endorse the Brook Park stadium \u201cis \u2018an affront to any partnership we have had together,\u2019 so as a result, they will stop participating in any GCP-led initiatives.\u201d The GCP had \u201clong stayed quiet\u201d and did not \u201cpick a side\u201d in the Brook Park versus downtown debate.
