One of the Detroit Lions\u2019 most-valued assistant coaches will have an opportunity to get a promotion elsewhere. As first reported by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Lions assistant head coach\/wide receivers coach Scottie Montgomery has been requested to interview for the Baltimore Ravens\u2019 offensive coordinator job.<\/p>\n
This year, after the Lions were able to hire Tashard Choice as their running backs coach, Montgomery moved to the wide receiver room, where he continued to help develop the Lions\u2019 young skill players. Jameson Williams took his game to another level under Montgomery. Not only did Williams post a career-high in receiving yards (1,117), but his route tree developed significantly. No longer just a deep threat, Williams became a more trusted and more versatile weapon under Montgomery.<\/p>\n
\u201cScottie understands this game very well, top to bottom\u2014pass game, protection, run game. He\u2019s a huge asset for us and for me,\u201d coach Dan Campbell said of Montgomery back in October.<\/p>\n
The Ravens recently hired Jesse Minter as their new head coach, replacing John Harbaugh. As a defensive-minded coach, he\u2019s undoubtedly looking for a trusted mind to run the offense.
