\u201cHe has been very active in the community and his church and has been raised to be a \u2018yes sir,\u2019 \u2018yes ma\u2019am\u2019 sort of kid.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The soft-spoken eighth grader said he does not see himself in the same light as others, as a standout athlete.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I got the call for the all-star game, it was a little surprising,\u201d Woods said. \u201cI have done a lot of hard work and just (spent) a lot of time to make this happen.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
No matter how hard he works, Weber believes his young phenom has a gift, one he compared to another species.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has almost cat-like reflexes. His play is largely instinctual,\u201d Weber said. \u201cYou can teach a lot of things, but instinct really can\u2019t be taught. It is almost like he knows what is going to happen before it happens.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
When addressing his favorite part of playing football, Woods did not say, receiving, blocking, or scoring touchdowns.<\/p>\n
\u201cDefinitely the environment, the people, the teammates and the coaches, they just give me a different mindset.\u201d<\/p>\n
None of the talent the young receiver has come by accident,.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll those Sundays you\u2019re out there with your dad,\u201d the coach said. \u201cHis dad\u2019s been his number one supporter. <\/p>\n
\u201cI can attest that they are out there on the field from 1 to 4 o\u2019clock honing his craft. That\u2019s special, and I tell him, \u2018don\u2019t ever take that for granted.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n
In the classroom Woods carries a 3.8 grade point average while taking classes such as Honors English and Algebra. He also acknowledges his dad\u2019s attention.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would like to say \u2018thank you,\u2019 \u201d the youngster said of his father. \u201cHe\u2019s working all day and then coming home, he takes time to throw the ball with me.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Woods is a multisport athlete who also runs track. He qualified and ran in the Nike Indoor Nationals\u00a0track meet.<\/p>\n
\u201cI run track and that has definitely helped me in football,\u201d Woods said. \u201cBefore track I was a big, slow clumsy receiver but track has helped me in my entire game.\u201d<\/p>\n
What is the future for Woods in the Mount Vernon program? <\/p>\n
\u201cOur roster is wide open,\u201d Weber said. \u201cIf he earns the right to play varsity as a freshman then he will. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe has to earn it, but with his skill set, I think you\u2019ll see more of him, sooner than later.\u201d<\/p>\n
