As the Washington Commanders<\/a> continue to rebuild their coaching staff, they may need to adjust for additional coaches leaving the organization. On Tuesday, it was announced that Commanders<\/a>‘ defensive passing game coordinator, Jason Simmons, will interview for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ vacant defensive coordinator position.<\/p>\n

Simmons is a former Pittsburgh Steelers safety. He played there from 1998-2001, followed by six seasons with the Houston Texans<\/a> before retiring as a player. After his playing career, Simmons joined the ranks of coaches in the NFL. For eight of his first nine seasons, he coached with the Green Bay Packers<\/a> under Mike McCarthy, the new head coach of the Steelers.<\/p>\n

While Simmons may have his own motivation for heading to Pittsburgh, this could also be a sign that the Commanders’ new defensive coordinator, Daronte Jones<\/a>, may be bringing his own staff to Washington. Between his collegiate and professional coaching experience, he likely has a list of coaches he’s ready to bring in. Whether that’s what he does or not remains to be seen.<\/p>\n

Given the connections between Simmons and McCarthy and Pittsburgh, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him head back to the Steelers. So if Jones doesn’t have a plan for his staff, he should probably think of someone to step in.<\/p>\n
