The second act has to be better than the first, right? In reality, things can\u2019t be much worse for Robert Saleh than they were in New York. Saleh came to the New York Jets with high hopes, plenty of optimism, and the best of intentions.<\/p>\n

In fact, we can just take out Saleh and replace him with any number of players and coaches who have temporarily worn the green and white of the Jets.<\/p>\n

Following a strong and inspired track record as defensive coordinator, things were supposed to be good. Saleh brought a new culture of change, excitement, and accountability to the Jets. All he did in San Francisco was lead strong defenses. And then, the Jets crashed, and Saleh left New York with a 20-36 record.<\/p>\n

Saleh is already positioned to do things better thanks to an early decision. In a key hire, he took Gregg Scruggs with him from San Francisco to run the defense. Having someone in place to take care of the defense will allow Saleh to focus more on the whole team.<\/p>\n

Not only will this be tough for San Francisco to recover from, but it sets Saleh up for success in his new role.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Predictably, Saleh\u2019s tenure as head coach ended in disappointment, and back to San Francisco he went. All Saleh did with the 49ers was find success. It shouldn\u2019t have been surprising, as Saleh generally wins over the locker room and generates positive results.<\/p>\n

The 49ers should have truly struggled on defense this season. Key injuries were plentiful, with Fred Warner and Nick Bosa most notably out for the season. Instead, Saleh led San Francisco to the second round of the playoffs as he proved what he\u2019s capable of as a coach.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, it earned Saleh a second chance at the head coach\u2019s seat. It\u2019s not going to be easy in Tennessee, but with Cam Ward entering his second season, there are some notable pieces in place. If the Titans truly have their quarterback, then Saleh is already ahead of the game compared to New York.<\/p>\n

It made sense that previously, Saleh would focus on the defense. That was what got him hired in the first place. Oftentimes, it takes coaches their second job to find their groove. Sitting in the big chair and having to oversee the entire team isn\u2019t easy.<\/p>\n
