It\u2019s officially draft season, and the sixth consecutive offseason in which the Steelers will be searching for a quarterback. There are plenty of questions as to who new head coach Mike McCarthy will favor in the draft or in free agency, but it is clear that the Steelers and McCarthy value their connections.<\/p>\n
The connection to LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and the Steelers is through his father. Nussmeier\u2019s father Doug, is the current offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints. He served as the Dallas Cowboys\u2019 quarterbacks coach from 2020 to 2022 under McCarthy.<\/p>\n
During his media availability, Nussmeier was asked about his connection to McCarthy and whether the opportunity to play in Pittsburgh had crossed his mind.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019d love to go play for the Steelers and that would be awesome to play for coach McCarthy,\u201d Nussmeier said.<\/p>\n
The quarterback did however, make it clear that although he would love the opportunity to play in Pittsburgh, he doesn\u2019t see the ties between McCarthy and his father as something that could drive Pittsburgh\u2019s decision to draft him.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s no I guess connect ties to that or anything like that,\u201d Nussmeier said. \u201cIt would be a great opportunity, you know i\u2019m just looking for anybody that will give me the opportunity to prove that I belong at the next level.\u201d<\/p>\n
