Brady was the QB of the Patriots team that beat the Seahawks and their vaunted \u201cLegion of Boom\u201d defense in Super Bowl 49 some 11 years ago, and he also saw the Hawks\u2019 \u201cDark Side\u201d defense up close as he called their two playoff wins over the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams this month as a broadcast analyst for FOX.<\/p>\n
There have been a lot of comparisons between the 2025 defense and the LOB, but Brady was able to shed light Wednesday with Seattle Sports\u2019 Brock and Salk on a key difference in how head coach Mike Macdonald runs his scheme as opposed to what the Seahawks did under a different defensive guru, Pete Carroll.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of differences. That scheme was a little more predictable,\u201d Brady said of the LOB. \u201cLike if I saw certain coverages, I kind of knew where the weak spots were. It\u2019s not as predictable with this defense.\u201d<\/p>\n
That means the Seahawks are really making opposing offenses think. And it also makes sense why the Rams, led by a 37-year-old former Super Bowl-winning QB in Matthew Stafford, were one of the few teams that were able to consistently put points on the board against the Seahawks this season.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis defense spins the dial a little bit more with their coverage schemes, where they decide to put their help,\u201d Brady said. \u201cThey do play the shell, and there\u2019s a lot of late rotation. Sometimes they cloud one side, sometimes they cloud the other. It takes a Matt Stafford surgical passing team to really exploit that.\u201d<\/p>\n
