Mark Konezny-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p>McDermott has ties to Buccaneers leadership, as he and general manager Jason Licht worked together in Philadelphia in the early 2000s.<\/p>\n<p>He <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/19\/sports\/bills-fire-sean-mcdermott-after-overtime-playoff-crusher\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">was fired from the Bills<\/a> this month after nine seasons at the helm.<\/p>\n<p>McDermott was axed after the Bills\u2019 latest postseason heartbreak, a 33-30 overtime loss to the Broncos in the Divisional Round.<\/p>\n<p>The defeat put McDermott at the 8-8 mark in the postseason.<\/p>\n<p>Much like the Bills, the Buccaneers have been retooling following a disappointing 8-9 campaign, in which they failed to clinch their sixth consecutive NFC South title and a playoff berth. <\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38324177\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/tampa-bay-buccaneers-head-coach-116125501.jpg\" alt=\"Todd Bowles\" class=\"wp-image-38324177\"  \/>Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles and his staff expressed interest in Sean McDermott this offseason. Kiyoshi Mio-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p>The Buccaneers <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/08\/sports\/buccaneers-fire-offensive-coordinator-josh-grizzard\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fired offensive coordinator Josh Girzzard<\/a> after just one season and hired Zac Robinson away from the rival Falcons to assume the role.<\/p>\n<p>The Bills have also moved on since McDermott\u2019s firing, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/27\/sports\/bills-promote-joe-brady-to-be-their-new-head-coach\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">elevating offensive coordinator Joe Brady<\/a> to head coach. <\/p>\n<p>The decision to move on from McDermott did not sit well with Bills Mafia, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/22\/sports\/bills-fans-petition-for-sean-mcdermotts-return-after-firing\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">with criticism coming<\/a> from players and fans alike. <\/p>\n<p>Buffalo was one of 10 head coaching vacancies this offseason, joining the Giants, Browns, Dolphins, Ravens, Steelers, Falcons, Titans, Raiders and Cardinals.<\/p>\n<p>Arizona and Las Vegas are the two remaining openings, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/29\/sports\/seahawks-klint-kubiak-is-holding-up-raiders-cardinals-coaching-searches\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">with Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak emerging as a top choice<\/a> for both.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Sean McDermott to Tampa Bay?
