It was previously reported that<\/a> the Steelers hoped to speak with Evans about a job, but now it seems they’ve sealed the deal.<\/p>\nIt hurts to see one of the most accomplished people in the organization move on, but it makes sense from Evans’ perspective. If he wasn’t going to get to run the position group himself in New Orleans, Pittsburgh would be a better opportunity. That he gets to move closer to home (he’s a Pennsylvania native who went to college at Bloomsburg in Philadelphia) and work with a coach he knows well only reinforces that decision. Evans spent the last year of his playing career on the Green Bay Packers under Mike McCarthy. Now he’s joining McCarthy’s coaching staff.<\/p>\n
Evans was one of the few assistants Kellen Moore retained after taking over from Dennis Allen last offseason, so he was clearly a respected presence in New Orleans even with a change in leadership. But if Evans has bigger ambitions than just being an assistant coach, he may have had to move elsewhere. Good luck to him in Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n
