The New York Giants<\/a> are moving quickly to fill their offensive coordinator position now that their top choice, Todd Monken, has accepted the head coaching job with the Cleveland Browns.<\/p>\n

The Giants have requested permission to speak with Alex Tanney, the offensive passing game coordinator with the Indianapolis Colts.<\/p>\n

If that name sounds familiar, it should. Tanney was a backup quarterback with the Giants a few years back.<\/p>\n

Tanney, 38, was famous for being an NFL backup quarterback, playing for eight teams in nine seasons between 2012 and 2020. His career ended with the Giants in 2020.<\/p>\n

As a coach, Tanney began his career as an offensive assistant with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021, eventually becoming their quarterback coach in 2023. He has been working for the Colts since 2024.<\/p>\n

Yes, that means Tanney, who backed up Daniel Jones with the Giants, also worked with him in Indianapolis. Jones was having a Pro Bowl season last year until an Achilles injury cut his year short after 13 games.<\/p>\n
