The Minnesota Vikings struggled mightily at the quarterback position<\/a> this season. After turning the position over to J.J. McCarthy, they also opted against having any sort of mentor for him to learn from. Sam Howell was a massive flop<\/a>, and Carson Wentz was acquired just days before<\/a> the season started.<\/p>\n It wasn\u2019t always this big of a mess for the Vikings, however. They previously have had established starters, and backup options that could read the field. That group includes Sean Mannion, who may have been among the better clipboard holders<\/a> in recent NFL history.<\/p>\n He quickly went from the playing field to the coaching ranks, and now he\u2019s got a big time promotion.<\/p>\n Sean Mannion takes Minnesota Vikings sideline wisdom to Philly<\/p>\n Despite never being a team\u2019s first option, Sean Mannion carved out a nine-year NFL career<\/a> (appeared in only six seasons) and made more than $7 million<\/a> to throw just 110 passes. After being released by the Minnesota Vikings in 2023, he turned his attention to coaching. Nick Sirianni made changes to his staff after the team failed to meet expectations this year, just one season after Philadelphia knocked off the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.<\/p>\n Mannion\u2019s football experience is substantial. While he threw for just 523 yards and one touchdown during his NFL career, he has been involved with the game for virtually his entire life. A four-year starter for Oregon State in college, Mannion threw for 13,600 yards and 83 touchdowns<\/a> in 47 games. He led the Pac-12 in passing yards in 2013.<\/p>\n A different challenge now awaits Mannion as he takes on a much more high-profile role. In Green Bay he was focused on Jordan Love and Malik Willis. With Philadelphia, he\u2019ll be tasked with getting the most out of Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, and AJ Brown.<\/p>\n It remains to be seen if Mannion will continue to employ the tush push so religiously. I\u2019m sure that conversation was had over the course of his two interviews with the franchise.
