Jon Gruden has pushed back on reports suggesting<\/a> the New York Jets<\/a> contacted him about a potential role on Aaron Glenn\u2019s coaching staff ahead of the 2026 NFL season.<\/p>\n

The former NFL head coach and current Barstool Sports personality addressed the rumors during an appearance on 95.3 WDAE radio<\/a> in the Tampa Bay area, where he was asked about them.<\/p>\n

“There’s a lot of stupid rumors out there. Some of these reports are ridiculous,” Gruden said. “Let’s just say there was never anything from the Jets and I wish them well in their search for a new offensive coordinator.”<\/p>\n

Gruden\u2019s comments followed reports that surfaced Jan. 28 linking him to the Jets. The Athletic\u2019s Zack Rosenblatt reported that New York had reached out to the 62-year-old coach about \u201cthe idea of joining Aaron Glenn\u2019s staff,\u201d though the report added that Gruden \u201cwasn\u2019t interested\u201d in the position. No further details were made public regarding the role Gruden was allegedly offered.<\/p>\n

Gruden, 62, began his head coaching career with the Raiders<\/a> from 1998 to 2001 before being traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers<\/a>, where he replaced Tony Dungy and won a Super Bowl in his first season. He was later fired by Tampa Bay and transitioned into broadcasting before returning to the Raiders for a second stint as head coach.<\/p>\n

That tenure ended amid controversy when Gruden resigned after leaked emails containing homophobic, racist and misogynistic language became public. He was briefly removed from the Buccaneers\u2019 Ring of Honor before being reinstated last year.<\/p>\n

In recent years, Gruden has reemerged as a media personality with Barstool Sports, amassing a significant following. Despite being out of coaching, his name frequently resurfaces when jobs with familiar ties open up, and he often fuels that speculation through social media.<\/p>\n
