For the third offseason in a row, the Pittsburgh Steelers are in search of help at the wide receiver position.<\/p>\n
Last season, GM Omar Khan thought he found the answer with the trade for DK Metcalf, pairing him initially with George Pickens. But after the 2025 NFL Draft, Khan traded Pickens to the Cowboys, leading to the Steelers being shorthanded at receiver for much of the season.<\/p>\n
Of course, Pittsburgh tried to find answers behind Metcalf, signing Marquez Valdes-Scantling and claiming Adam Thielen off waivers, but it never quite worked out. Now, Mike McCarthy is the new head coach and all signs seemingly point to Aaron Rodgers returning for another season at quarterback.<\/a><\/p>\n So, the Steelers will need help at wide receiver behind Metcalf.<\/p>\n Free agency offers a good path to address that. For Pro Football Focus\u2019 Bradley Locker has one name in mind for the Steelers: Romeo Doubs.<\/p>\n \u201cWith the Steelers hiring Mike McCarthy, the team will likely invest more in its offense as it attempts to better a unit that placed 20th in EPA per play. Finding a running mate for DK Metcalf would go a long way in doing so,\u201d Locker writes regarding Doubs as the one player the Steelers should target in free agency.<\/a> \u201cDoubs has been a solid option over the last three seasons with a 78.6 PFF receiving grade. Since 2024, he also sits in the 75th percentile in receiving grade vs. single coverage.<\/p>\n \u201cThe 25-year-old former Packer could reunite with Aaron Rodgers (if he returns) and should have little trouble learning McCarthy\u2019s terminology.\u201d<\/p>\n Though he\u2019s never played with Rodgers or for McCarthy, Doubs has been connected to the Steelers for quite some time now.<\/p>\n For a team that struggled to work the ball down the field consistently in the passing game, Doubs would be a welcome addition opposite Metcalf. Last season in Green Bay, Doubs hauled in 55 passes for a career-best 724 yards and six touchdowns.<\/p>\n He was a big-play threat all season and had a breakout game against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football, hauling in three touchdown passes on the road. Doubs finished the year strong with eight receptions for 124 yards and a touchdown against the Bears in the Packers\u2019 playoff loss.<\/p>\n That has him set up to be a big-time option on the free agent market.<\/p>\n
