{"id":717833,"date":"2026-01-31T00:50:18","date_gmt":"2026-01-31T00:50:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/717833\/"},"modified":"2026-01-31T00:50:18","modified_gmt":"2026-01-31T00:50:18","slug":"indianapolis-colts-receiving-big-salary-cap-boost-in-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/717833\/","title":{"rendered":"Indianapolis Colts receiving big salary cap boost in 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jan. 30, 2026, 4:30 p.m. ET<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The <a href=\"\/\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Indianapolis Colts<\/a> and the rest of the NFL just received some good news as it pertains to the 2026 salary cap figure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/go.skimresources.com\/?id=83224X1595658&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nfl.com%2Fnews%2Fnfl-salary-cap-projected-at-301-2-million-to-305-7-million-per-team-for-2026-season&amp;xcust=SC1-SCLT&amp;sref=https%3A%2F%2Fcoltswire.usatoday.com%2Fstory%2Fsports%2Fnfl%2Fcolts%2F2026%2F01%2F30%2Findianapolis-colts-receiving-big-salary-cap-boost-2026%2F88438417007%2F\" data-v-afl=\"\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NFL Network<\/a>, the league has notified all 32 teams that the projected salary cap for the 2026 season will be between $301.2 million and $305.7 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Compared to the 2025 salary cap, which was set at $279.2 million, that is an increase of over $20 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">For several years now, the cap has increased at a significant rate. In 2022, the salary cap that year was $208.2 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Prior to this news, <a href=\"https:\/\/overthecap.com\/salary-cap-space\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Over the Cap<\/a> projected that the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/football\/nfl\/teams\/indianapolis-colts\/338\" data-autotag=\"d3fda36a-3eb5-4700-8763-caba831c06ae\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Colts<\/a> would have $26.9 million in available cap space. That, however, was with a projected salary cap of $295.5 million.<\/p>\n<p>Expert NFL picks: <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-t-l=\":body nav (nfl)|e|auto spike click:4|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_sp_a\" href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/football\/nfl\/picks\">Exclusive betting insights only at USA TODAY.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">So instead, the Colts will have between roughly $32 million and $36 million in available cap space.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The opportunity for GM Chris Ballard to further reshape the Colts&#8217; roster in free agency does seem to exist, given the team&#8217;s salary cap situation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">When owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon spoke with the media after the season, she mentioned how\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/coltswire.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nfl\/colts\/2026\/01\/05\/why-carlie-irsay-gordon-indianapolis-colts-retained-gm-chris-ballard\/88037626007\/\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ballard adapted<\/a>\u00a0his roster-building approach, which included being more aggressive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Ballard then\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/coltswire.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nfl\/colts\/2026\/01\/08\/notes-chris-ballard-press-conference-indianapolis-colts-miss-playoffs\/88081607007\/\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">seemed to acknowledge<\/a>\u00a0that continuing down that path was going to be the plan this offseason.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Addressing the defensive side of the ball, specifically, seems to be a big priority for the Colts this offseason.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Some notable free agents for the Colts this offseason include Daniel Jones, Alec Pierce, Nick Cross, and others.
