Prior to the 2022 season, the Miami Dolphins made a blockbuster trade as they acquired Tyreek Hill from the Kansas City Chiefs. Hill instantly became the face of the franchise for the Dolphins. In his first two seasons with the team, Hill set the franchise record for receiving yards as he was selected as a first-team All-Pro twice.

His third season saw the first sign of decline. The explosive plays that characterized his first two years were long gone and he failed to reach 1,000 yards for the first time since arriving in Miami. Perhaps worst of all, in Miami’s regular season finale, Hill took himself out of the game and seemingly asked out of Miami in the locker room. Speaking to the media after the game, Hill said, “I’m out, bruh. It was great playing here but at the end of the day, I have to do what’s best for my career.”

Hill would later retract those statements, but they were the beginning of the end of his time in Miami.

Miami Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill Next Destination

After four years together, the Miami Dolphins are seemingly ready to move on from Tyreek Hill. He’s set to carry a $51 million cap hit in the 2026 season, and after a dislocated knee injury kept him out for most of the 2025 season, the Dolphins are expected to release Hill.

A team that has become a potential candidate for Hill’s services is the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers recently hired former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel as their new offensive coordinator. In response to the news of McDaniel going to the Chargers, Hill posted on X, “Mike to the chargers hm.”

Hill’s post grew speculation that he might join McDaniel in Los Angeles. Former Los Angeles Chargers player Scott Quessenberry chimed in on the possibility of Hill joining the Chargers. He said, “No brainer. If the dolphins release him his contract is void. So teams are free to negotiate. If you are worried about the injury, think about Stefon Diggs 32, signed a middle of the pack deal, 22nd in APY. You’d be foolish to not entertain Tyreek Hill as the 20th highest paid wide receiver in the league. This doesn’t go for just the Chargers but every team in the NFL.:

Potential Fit with Chargers

Regarding his potential fit with the Chargers, Sports Illustrated’s Chris Roling wrote, “McDaniel will know how to use Hill. Getting him on the field with Ladd McConkey, Tre Harris and Oronde Gadsden, with Omarion Hampton in the backfield, certainly seems like a good situation for Herbert.

Wideout and weapons around Herbert in general aren’t the biggest need for the Chargers going into the offseason. But if Hill becomes available, has an interest and won’t cost much to add, like the comments above suggest, that would be a no-brainer of a thing to consider.”

Unfortunately for Dolphins fans, it seems Hill’s time in Miami is coming to an end. They will have to watch the wide receiver who posted the best receiving seasons in franchise history have to play elsewhere. As Quessenberry said, with Hill off an injury, he might just be a bargain signing at his price.

Jose Esquer Jose Esquer is a Mexican-American sportswriter and communications student based in San Diego, CA.
