The Washington Commanders<\/a> always believed Kliff Kingsbury’s time as offensive coordinator would be short. Washington believed it would have Kingsbury for maybe two years before he’d land another head coaching job. However, the Commanders mutually parted ways with Kingsbury<\/a> on January 6, two days after the disappointing 2025 season ended.<\/p>\n

When the Commanders<\/a> moved on from Kingsbury, they had an idea that they were replacing him with<\/a> assistant quarterbacks coach David Blough. That’s what happened: Washington promoted Blough three days later after interviewing five candidates.<\/p>\n

As for Kingsbury, no one believed he’d be out of work long. Since leaving Washington, Kingsbury has interviewed for multiple jobs, including at least two head coaching openings. Kingsbury didn’t land any of those jobs, but some offensive coordinator vacancies remain. Could he be remaining in the NFC East, joining John Harbaugh’s new coaching staff with the New York Giants<\/a>?<\/p>\n

Jordan Raanan of ESPN said Kingsbury<\/a> “is expected to be in the mix.”<\/p>\n

He was the offensive coordinator the past two seasons for Washington and has a strong track record of calling plays. Kingsbury is expected to be in the mix, especially after he was on the fringe of their head coaching search.<\/p>\n

Kingsbury would make a ton of sense for New York. The Giants have a young quarterback, Jaxson Dart, who is a dual-threat signal-caller. Kingsbury has experienced tremendous success with these types of passers since he was an offensive coordinator at Texas A&M with Johnny Manziel and head coach at Texas Tech with Patrick Mahomes. Since entering the NFL, Kingsbury has worked with Kyler Murray and Jayden Daniels. Kingsbury’s best work was in 2024 with Daniels and the Commanders and Harbaugh could look to that as a template for Dart.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, in 2025, Washington dealt with numerous injuries, including to Daniels, that cost him 10 games. The Commanders were unable to replicate last season’s success, but given the amount of turnover they faced, Kingsbury did an impressive job.<\/p>\n

It’s been an offseason of change already for the NFC East. The Commanders hired a new offensive (Blough) and defensive coordinator (Daronte Jones), the Cowboys hired a new defensive coordinator (Christian Parker), and the Eagles hired a new offensive coordinator (Sean Mannion).
