But a final decision still awaits.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">More from Kempski:<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">According to multiple sources, the Philadelphia Eagles got a big scare recently when legendary defensive coordinator Vic Fangio informed the team that he was retiring from coaching in the NFL. However, sources said that Fangio was convinced by the team\u2019s brass to stay for at least one more season in 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">For now, Fangio is back, though it should be noted that PhillyVoice reached out to an Eagles spokesperson to confirm that Fangio is still the team\u2019s defensive coordinator, and they declined to answer until further notice. As such, wiggle room exists for Fangio to change his mind again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Other reporters have also weighed in to share similar sentiment that Fangio could very well return but it\u2019s not yet a done deal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Kempski also reports that the Eagles reached out to former defensive coordinators Jonathan Gannon (no!) and Jim Schwartz to gauge their interest in returning to Philly should Fangio retire. Gannon has since taken the Green Bay Packers\u2019 DC job while a reportedly disgruntled Schwartz remains under contract with the Cleveland Browns despite being passed over for their head coach opening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">If Fangio does return, the Eagles should reasonably be expected to have one of the league\u2019s better defenses next season. He\u2019s done an awesome job in two years as Philadelphia\u2019s defensive coordinator. The Eagles don\u2019t win Super Bowl LIX without him.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">If Fangio does NOT return, well, that would be a pretty devastating loss. Especially after losing his potential successor Christian Parker to the Dallas Cowboys. The Eagles would do well to find a way to get Schwartz back in Philly if needed.
