The Los Angeles Rams<\/a> will once again be replacing a top assistant in the offseason after offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur became<\/a> the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. LaFleur was with the Rams for three seasons and is now the fourth<\/a> former Sean McVay offensive coordinator to take a head coaching job.<\/p>\n

McVay didn’t give too many details on the Rams’ search for their next offensive coordinator, but did tell reporters Monday that it would be “extensive.”<\/a> McVay noted that there are a lot of potential internal hires as well who will be considered for the position.<\/p>\n

“We’ve got great candidates in-house,” McVay said. “Based on the rules and I think what is the appropriate thing, are you going to do an extensive search to really just dive into what’s going to be the best way to bring in new people that help us continue to build and grow towards where we want to go.”<\/p>\n

Passing game coordinator Nathan Scheelhaase is likely the favorite<\/a> to be the next Rams offensive coordinator, considering how many head coaching interviews he had this offseason.<\/p>\n

However, other current Rams assistants with experience leading a team or offense who could be promoted to include quarterbacks coach Dave Ragone and running backs coach Ron Gould. Ragone was the Atlanta Falcons’ offensive coordinator from 2021 to 2023 and Gould has experience as an assistant head coach at Cal and as a head coach at UC Davis.<\/p>\n

There are some external hires<\/a> the Rams could look at, too, with connections to McVay. Coaches like Thomas Brown, Kliff Kingsbury and Keenan McCardell.<\/p>\n

The search has just begun, but McVay likely has a long list of names he and the team will look at for the position.<\/p>\n
