Hurst went 447-159 overall and won 10 state championships all at Centreville. Hurst\u2019s 447 wins are the most all-time.<\/p>\n<p>Hurst is staying on staff as the defensive coordinator. Offensive coordinator and athletic director Brian Stutzman has been named the new head coach of the Tigers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been very blessed and God let me do what I wanted to do and was very blessed to have some good players. He placed me here,\u201d Hurst said. \u201cI\u2019m staying for a few more years as defensive coordinator because I told the kids I would stay and work with them. Brian played for me in the late 80\u2019s and early 90\u2019s and has been my right-hand man for a while, so we will do a great job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2025 Hurst guided the Tigers to a 12-1 season and claimed the MAIS Class 2A, Division I state championship.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a lot of fun and blessed to be able to coach this long with great coaches and players in a great community and school. Blessed to have a lot of success at a small school,\u201d Hurst said. \u201cMy first year as head coach we went 10-1 and won state championship with 16 players, so from the start we\u2019ve worked really hard with what we had.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The state\u2019s all-time winningest coach is stepping down.
