The move brings back a familiar presence to the Dallas quarterback room and gives the veteran signal-caller another opportunity to compete for a roster spot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Futures contracts are common in the NFL this time of year, as they allow teams to secure the rights of a player. Grier is now eligible to participate in offseason programs and becomes an extra arm during the team&#8217;s various mini-camps and organized team activities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Dak Prescott is the clear cut starter and the only other quarterback on the roster was Joe Milton III, <a href=\"https:\/\/go.skimresources.com\/?id=83224X1595658&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.espn.com%2Fnfl%2Fstory%2F_%2Fid%2F44518092%2Fsources-patriots-trade-qb-joe-milton-iii-cowboys&amp;xcust=SC1-SCOW&amp;sref=https%3A%2F%2Fcowboyswire.usatoday.com%2Fstory%2Fsports%2Fnfl%2Fcowboys%2F2026%2F02%2F02%2Fcowboys-will-grier-futures-contract%2F88482838007%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" data-v-afl=\"\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">whom they traded for during last offseason.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Grier, 30, originally entered the league as a 2019 third-round pick by the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/football\/nfl\/teams\/carolina-panthers\/364\" data-autotag=\"8afac4d1-41b4-4302-b154-b45f5b48a0d2\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Panthers<\/a>. In Carolina, he would go<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GrieWi00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\"> 28 of 52 for 228 yards and four interceptions with zero touchdowns<\/a> in his only regular season game action of his career.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Dallas would enjoy his services through the 2022 season before Grier journeyed through four teams before landing back in Dallas in 2024.
