This is the last major opening to fill Mike McCarthy’s new staff in Pittsburgh. He has been Kevin O’Connell’s right hand man with the Vikings for the last four seasons in a highly regarded offensive system.

While the Vikings slumped in 2025 with J.J. McCarthy, they were a top 10 scoring offense twice during Angelichio’s tenure in his current role, and finished in the top 12 total offenses for three straight years from 2022 to 2024.

Like Arthur Smith before him, Angelichio comes with a tight end coaching background. He has been a tight ends coach for six different NFL teams and a few other college programs.

If Kaboly is correct, the Steelers will likely announce Angelichio sometime on Wednesday as they did with the other coordinator hires. Once made official, the only position coach role to fill will be the tight ends assuming Angelichio doesn’t double up on his duties. With McCarthy’s expanded coaching staff, that likely won’t be the case.

While this is technically an upgrade in title for Angelichio, McCarthy already confirmed he will be calling the plays in Pittsburgh. He will likely operate in a similar capacity as he was for McConnell, now serving as McCarthy’s right hand man.

Angelichio will be the eighth hire on McCarthy’s staff with ties back to his Green Bay Packers days. He served as a TEs coach under McCarthy from 2016 to 2018.

Check out our Steelers coaching staff tracker for all the latest on McCarthy’s hires.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are nearing an agreement to hire Minnesota Vikings pass game coordinator and tight end coach…

[2055
104230,7,5241,6,520,57,2360,426,691
0":"post-728094","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-pittsburgh-steelers","8":"tag-brian-angelichio","9":"tag-football","10":"tag-mark-kaboly","11":"tag-nfl","12":"tag-pittsburgh","13":"tag-pittsburgh-steelers","14":"tag-pittsburghsteelers","15":"tag-steelers","16":"tag-trending
["GET
