He\u2019s the guy that just about every pundit is mocking to the New York Jets with the second overall pick.<\/p>\n

Ohio State\u2019s Arvell Reese.<\/p>\n

What position should he be listed as, though?<\/p>\n

Perhaps \u201cdefensive weapon\u201d?<\/p>\n

Reese played off-ball linebacker for the Buckeyes, but he got plenty of opportunities to rush the passer, albeit not many as a true edge rusher.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s Reese\u2019s pass-rush upside, though, that has scouts salivating over his NFL potential. His ceiling as an edge rusher is what could get him drafted second overall; you would not take an off-ball linebacker with the second pick in 2026.<\/p>\n

Although Reese\u2019s pass-rush ceiling is the main appeal of his scouting report, his potential as an all-around defensive weapon cannot be discounted. He projects as the type of game-changing chess piece that can open up a wealth of options for his defensive coordinator, while creating nightmares for the opposing offensive coordinator and quarterback.<\/p>\n

The question on everyone\u2019s minds, though, is whether Reese should be the Jets\u2019 pick at No. 2, especially over a talented crop of competitors, including his teammate, wide receiver Carnell Tate, whose film we have already broken down<\/a>. Reese is also competing against elite EDGE prospects like Miami\u2019s Rueben Bain Jr. and Texas Tech\u2019s David Bailey.<\/p>\n

It really comes down to one question: Can the Jets trust that Reese will become an elite NFL pass rusher despite his lack of reps at the college level?<\/p>\n
