Prior to Virginia Tech: \u00a0Wood spent four seasons at VMI (2022-25), first as special teams coach\/video coordinator before being promoted to special teams coordinator. He added director of player personnel duties in 2024. Wood developed two All-American specialists in punter, Jack Culbreath and long snapper, Robert Soderholm. In 2024, Wood coached long snapper, Austin Fletcher to All-SoCon Freshman honors.<\/p>\n
Prior to his time in Lexington, Wood served as a special teams quality control analyst for one season at Minnesota (2021), helping the Golden Gophers to a 9-4 record and a win over West Virginia in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl.<\/p>\n
In 2020, Wood served as a Special Teams Quality Control Analyst at the University of Akron, where he also spent a short stint as the interim co-special teams coordinator in the offseason.<\/p>\n
Wood got his start in coaching at Carroll University, serving as the special teams coordinator\/linebackers coach in 2019.<\/p>\n

Personal: \u00a0Originally from Libertyville, Illinois, Wood was a three-year starting punter at Valparaiso. He was selected unanimous First Team All-Pioneer Football League in 2012 and 2010, and Second Team in 2011. His honors also include being selected as a Preseason All-American in 2011, earning All-Pioneer Football League Special Teams Player of the Week twice, placing on the All-Pioneer Football League Academic Team in 2010, and being selected as Team MVP in 2010. Wood earned an invite to the Chicago Bears Minicamp in 2013.<\/p>\n
