Mike McCarthy\u2019s coaching staff in his first year in charge of the Pittsburgh Steelers is starting to round into shape.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

After reported hirings throughout the day on Wednesday, the Steelers made a handful of them official, announcing the hiring of five coaches to McCarthy\u2019s staff.<\/p>\n

In the team announcement on Wednesday, the Steelers confirmed the hiring of Brian Angelichio as offensive coordinator, Joe Whitt Jr. as assistant head coach\/secondary coach, Domata Peko as defensive line coach, and Danny Crossman as special teams coordinator<\/a>, while also revealing the hiring of Patrick Reilly as a defensive quality control coach.<\/p>\n

All the additions, except Reilly, were reported to this point.<\/p>\n

We have named Brian Angelichio offensive coordinator, Danny Crossman special teams coordinator, Joe Whitt Jr. assistant head coach\/secondary, Domata Peko defensive line coach and Pat Reilly defensive quality control.<\/p>\n

Prior to joining the Steelers, Reilly spent time with the Houston Texans in 2025, serving as an offensive assistant on DeMeco Ryans\u2019 coaching staff. He previously was with the Jacksonville Jaguars, serving as an assistant linebackers coach and defensive quality control coach before moving to Houston.<\/p>\n

Reilly got his start in coaching at the collegiate level, starting out at SUNY-Brockport and SUNY-Cortland before spending time with Syracuse. He also served on the coaching staffs of UCLA and Alabama in recent years before jumping to the NFL.<\/p>\n

In Pittsburgh, he\u2019ll have a defensive quality control role on McCarthy\u2019s staff.<\/p>\n

Angelichio comes over from the Minnesota Vikings<\/a>, where he served as pass game coordinator\/tight ends coach the last four years. He previously worked with McCarthy in Green Bay from 2016-18 as tight ends coach, and has ties to Pittsburgh, having worked on Dave Wannstedt\u2019s staff at the University of Pittsburgh from 2006-10.<\/p>\n

Whitt is another coach who has ties to McCarthy<\/a>, dating back to Green Bay. He also worked on McCarthy\u2019s staff in Dallas before serving as the Washington Commanders\u2019 defensive coordinator for the last two seasons before being fired after the 2025 season.<\/p>\n

Along with the moves confirmed by the Steelers today, a report surfaced from the FCS level in college that former Montana State defensive coordinator Shawn Howe is joining the Steelers\u2019 staff<\/a> under McCarthy as the outside linebackers coach, though the Steelers didn\u2019t name Howe in the official hirings on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Peko was a reported hiring on Monday<\/a> by The Athletic\u2019s Zac Jackson, who covers the Browns and the AFC North. The former Cincinnati Bengals defensive lineman was previously on the staff at Colorado under Deion Sanders, and had started his coaching career in 2024 as a defensive assistant in Dallas under McCarthy.<\/p>\n

He played 15 seasons in the NFL and steps in to replace Karl Dunbar in Pittsburgh, who spent the last eight seasons overseeing the defensive line in the Steel City. The Steelers decided not to retain Dunbar after Mike Tomlin stepped down after 19 seasons.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll see what other moves the Steelers have on the coaching staff under McCarthy. But things are rounding into form for the Black and Gold in an offseason of change.<\/p>\n
