What the future looks like for the Atlanta Falcons<\/a> is uncertain under a new regime. But Michael Penix<\/a> Jr. has made it clear he intends to be part of it.<\/p>\n With a revamped front office led by general manager Ian Cunningham and president of football Matt Ryan<\/a>, and Kevin Stefanski now in charge as head coach, the quarterback position will be under a microscope in 2026.<\/p>\n Veteran Kirk Cousins<\/a> is widely expected to be released, leaving Penix as the only logical in-house option to start. The complication, of course, is his recovery from a torn ACL suffered in November.<\/p>\n The typical recovery timeline ranges from nine to 12 months. Still, the third-year quarterback doesn\u2019t appear interested in waiting quietly to see how things unfold.<\/p>\n Michael Penix Jr.\u2019s Cryptic Message Raises Eyebrows<\/p>\n On Jan. 4, Penix shared a lengthy Instagram post<\/a> that quickly drew attention. The timing came shortly after Ryan declined to fully commit to him as the 2026 starter<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cQuarterback\u2019s obviously very important, and we\u2019re excited about Mike and what he\u2019s doing with his rehab,\u201d Ryan said. \u201cI\u2019ve been up at the facility the last three weeks, and Michael\u2019s been in there attacking that and he\u2019s in a good space right now. So we\u2019re excited about where he\u2019s at. But certainly, a lot of discussions for us about the entire roster.\u201d<\/p>\n Not long after, Penix wrote:<\/p>\n \u201cAs a man, you carry a lot of \u2018pressure\u2019 each and every day. Pressure to provide for your family, pressure to succeed in everything you do in life, pressure of letting everybody around you down. But one thing I never did and never will do is fold in the face of it. Everything I\u2019ve been through to this point made me into who I am today and I wouldn\u2019t change a thing!\u201d<\/p>\n While the message never mentioned anything directly, the timing led to speculation that it was directed at critics \u2014 or even the organization itself.<\/p>\n Michael Penix Jr. Explains Instagram Post<\/p>\n During Super Bowl LX week, Penix appeared on \u201cUp & Adams\u201d with Kay Adams<\/a> and addressed the post directly.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s just how I was feeling,\u201d Penix said. \u201cI see some people trying to twist it up and make it seem about whatever Matt Ryan<\/a> said in his presser before because of the timing of it. But I\u2019m not an overthinker. I don\u2019t think too much about that. I don\u2019t play the social media game and stuff like that.<\/p>\n \u201cI just posted it because that was what I was feeling. I feel like I\u2019ve been through a lot in my journey to get to where I\u2019m at today and there\u2019s a lot of stuff I don\u2019t say out loud. I just expressed it through that post.\u201d<\/p>\n Penix indicated his post had nothing to do with Ryan and that he wasn\u2019t even aware of Stephen A. Smith\u2019s claim that he was only able to work under shotgun<\/a>.<\/p>\n Overall, Penix has just 14 career starts \u2014 not even a full season\u2019s worth of experience. But despite the uncertainty in Atlanta, the tone from the quarterback hasn\u2019t changed.<\/p>\n He\u2019s rehabbing. He\u2019s working.
