Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken has wasted little time in assembling his first coaching staff.<\/p>\n
And even though it is the weekend, Monken has stayed busy with the news that he plans to hire Bobby Johnson as an assistant offensive line coach.<\/p>\n
That is according to Matt Zenitz at CBS Sports.<\/p>\n
Johnson was let go in early January after spending two seasons with the Washington Commanders despite overseeing a unit that allowed only 13 quarterback hits and 137 pressures, both the fourth-loweset in the league, according to Pro Football Focus.<\/p>\n
That was quite a reversal from the last time Johnson was let go by a team, which came after the 2023 season when he was offensive line coach for the New York Giants in a season where the Giants allowed an NFL-high 85 sacks.<\/p>\n
Prior to his tour of duty in the NFC East Division, Johnson spent three years with the Buffalo Bills as offensive line coach (2020 to 2021), and has also worked for the Indianapolis Colts as assistant offensive line coach (2018), the Raiders as tight ends coach (2015 to 2017), the Detroit Lions as tight ends coach and assistant offensive line coach (2013 to 2014), the Jacksonville Jaguars as tight ends coach (2012), and his first NFL job as assistant offensive line coach with the Bills (2010 to 2011).<\/p>\n
Cleveland represents a homecoming of sorts for Johnson, who played high school football at Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron, where he was the state\u2019s Division III Lineman of the Year in 1991, before playing collegiately at Miami University, where he also coached the offensive line for six seasons after graduating.<\/p>\n
