After five seasons out of the league, Adam Gase has returned to the NFL.<\/p>\n
The 47-year-old coach, who last coached in 2020, is joining the Los Angeles Chargers<\/a> as an assistant with a focus on the passing game<\/a>, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport first reported<\/a> on Monday.<\/p>\n Gase coached with the Denver Broncos<\/a> from 2009-2014, working his way up from wide receivers coach to offensive coordinator. After a one-year stint as OC with the Chicago Bears<\/a> in 2015, Gase landed a head coach job with the Miami Dolphins<\/a>. He was fired after going 23-25 from 2016-2018.<\/p>\n Gase then landed a head coach job with the New York Jets<\/a> after receiving a recommendation from Peyton Manning<\/a>. Gase went 9-23 in two seasons in New York before being fired following the 2020 campaign. Now, six years later, he’s returning to the league as a member of Jim Harbaugh’s staff in L.A.<\/p>\n Gase, the son-in-law of Broncos<\/a> senior defensive assistant Joe Vitt, spent time around the team in 2025<\/a>, but he did not hold an official role on head coach Sean Payton’s staff. Gase is now set to face off against Payton and Vitt twice in 2026 after landing in the AFC West.<\/p>\n Need a news break?
