According to the experts at Spotrac.com<\/a>, Kansas City is currently projected to have -$57,583,869 in cap space, the lowest figure among all NFL teams.<\/p>\n

This means that Chiefs general manager Brett Veach will need to clear nearly $60,000,000 from Kansas City’s 2026 payroll before he can sign a single player in free agency.<\/p>\n

While the Chiefs have gone to great lengths to keep their window for championship contention open, the team’s current salary cap number is clearly untenable.<\/p>\n

Fans in Kansas City should expect Veach to restructure Patrick Mahomes’ contract, which could free up $44,360,000 in cap space by converting the star quarterback’s salary to guaranteed bonuses, according to the quants at OverTheCap.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n
