Adam Gase is back in football.<\/p>\n
The NFL Network\u2019s Ian Rapoport reports the former Miami Dolphins<\/a> and New York Jets<\/a> head coach is joining Jim Harbaugh\u2019s Los Angeles Chargers<\/a> staff.<\/p>\n He\u2019s back: After a five-year hiatus, Adam Gase returns to coaching in the NFL, joining the #Chargers<\/a> as an assistant focusing on the passing game, sources say.<\/p>\n The former #Jets<\/a> and #Dolphins<\/a> coach rose in the ranks as a record-setting offensive mind. Now back to his roots in LA. pic.twitter.com\/swCKTPt1bm<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) February 9, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n Gase, 47, is set to be an assistant coach focusing on the passing game.<\/p>\n The Ypsilanti, MI native has been out of the game since his dismissal from the Jets in 2020. In his five seasons as a head coach, three with the Dolphins and two with the Jets, Gase had a record of 32-48. He made the playoffs on one occasion. He was fired after a 2-14 season.<\/p>\n Prior to becoming a head coach, Gase had stints on the staffs of the Detroit Lions<\/a>, San Francisco 49ers<\/a>, Denver Broncos<\/a> and Chicago Bears<\/a>, serving as offensive coordinator with the latter two teams.<\/p>\n Gase will join a new-look Chargers offensive staff. Fellow former Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel is the new OC with the team, coming aboard when Jesse Minter returned to the Baltimore Ravens<\/a> as their new head coach.<\/p>\n
