Philadelphia Eagles<\/a> legend and Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Sonny Jurgensen has died at the age of 91.<\/p>\n

Jurgensen\u2019s family announced the news on Friday.<\/p>\n

Jurgensen spent 18 seasons as an NFL quarterback with the Eagles and Washington. He joined Philadelphia as a fourth-round pick out of Duke in the 1957 draft.<\/p>\n

Jurgensen backed up Bobby Thomason and then Norm Van Brocklin with the Eagles. In 1960, he served as Van Brocklin\u2019s backup when the Eagles won the NFL Championship.<\/p>\n

Sonny Jurgensen<\/p>\n

Jurgensen became the team\u2019s starter the following season and thrived. He was named a first-team All-Pro, leading the NFL in passing yards. He was the league\u2019s leader in 1962, too.<\/p>\n

Jurgensen was traded to Washington in 1964 and remained with the team through the 1974 season. He was named an All-Pro three times and led the league in passing thrice with Washington.<\/p>\n

Jurgensen\u2019s No. 9 jersey was retired by Washington and he is in the team\u2019s Ring of Fame as well as the Eagles\u2019 Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the Eagles\u2019 HOF in 1987.<\/p>\n

Jurgensen was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1983.<\/p>\n
