What we see today is the mellowed-down version of the NFL. The old-school fans miss those days when Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick fought on the sidelines during the 1998 divisional game. For many, including former NFL WR Keyshawn Johnson<\/a>, that was the craziest event. But everyone enjoyed it. When the NY Jets<\/a> promoted Belichick as the head coach, and on the day of the public announcement, he wrote on a napkin, \u201cI resign as HC of the NYJ.\u201d Crazy! Wait, there are more wild stories.<\/p>\n

Keyshawn Johnson played under 2-time Super Bowl winning coach Bill Parcells in the New York Jets from 1997 to 1999 and later at the Cowboys<\/a> in 2004 and 2005. During the 1998 season, the Jets already had a 11-3 win-loss record and a confirmed place in the playoffs before the last regular season game against the New England Patriots<\/a>. But the HC was relentless.<\/p>\n

On May 20 episode of Games with Names podcast, host Julian Edelman<\/a> enquired about the preparations. It stirred up memories in the Cowboys legend, who then replied, \u201cDude, we want to go home. We have families, just cuz you don\u2019t want,. I tell Bill, I said \u2018Just cuz you don\u2019t want to be home with your wife don\u2019t mean I don\u2019t want to be home with my family.\u2019 Like seriously.\u201d It left the Patriots legend in stitches.<\/p>\n

However, Bill Parcells told Keyshawn Johnson, \u201cOh, you just worry about Ty Law.\u201d That\u2019s another famous story. One time, the receiver suffered from fever and didn\u2019t practice. The media turned it into a hysteria by calling it Ty Law flu, claiming the WR feared the Patriots 3-time Super Bowl winner Ty Law<\/a>. But he dismissed those theories on the podcast.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cHe (Ty Law) was physical, but I was a physical receiver too.\u201d Overall, there have been a fair share of such crazy stories from the wild years of football. The game was much more physical back then. However, the Cowboys legend still makes his voice heard whenever there is such a talk. It happened recently when he questioned Eagles<\/a> place as the best team to win a Super Bowl.<\/p>\n

Keyshawn Johnson refutes Saquon Barkley\u2019s outrageous claim<\/p>\n

After 6 horrendous seasons with<\/a> the NY Giants<\/a>, when RB Saquon Barkley played in only 1 playoff despite good performances, the running back moved to the Eagles. It was a turnaround that happened in decades. He led the league in catches (345) and rushing yards (2,005) with 13 touchdowns. Ultimately, they won Super Bowl LIX.<\/p>\n

However, Barkley<\/a> made an outrageous claim a few days ago that the 2024 Eagles were one of the top 5 teams to win a Super Bowl. Obviously, it garnered a reaction from the Cowboys legend. On the May 23 episode of the SPEAK show, Keyshawn Johnson refuted those claims and said, \u201cI agree with him in his own mind. I mean, that\u2019s coming out of his mind, but in all honesty, nah, not quite. No, they\u2019re not one of the top five teams in the history of the national football league.\u201d Well, that\u2019s debatable.<\/p>\n

He then reminded the fans of all those legendary teams from the past. The 1985 Bears<\/a> and 1970 Steelers<\/a> were a few electric teams that shocked their rivals at will. However, he also showed them the way to become one of the greats. They need to win a couple more Super Bowls to enter the discussion. Even recently, we have seen the Tom\u00a0<\/a>Brady-<\/a>led\u00a0Patriots win 6 Super Bowls in 2 decades. Are the Eagles up there? Not yet!<\/p>\n

Understandably, they are running high on success.
