{"id":744513,"date":"2026-02-11T10:18:28","date_gmt":"2026-02-11T10:18:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/744513\/"},"modified":"2026-02-11T10:18:28","modified_gmt":"2026-02-11T10:18:28","slug":"dan-quinn-drops-bummed-reaction-to-washington-post-layoffs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/744513\/","title":{"rendered":"Dan Quinn drops &#8216;bummed&#8217; reaction to Washington Post layoffs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The head coach of the <a href=\"https:\/\/clutchpoints.com\/nfl\/washington-commanders\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Washington Commanders<\/a> football team made a classy move, following the news that The <a href=\"https:\/\/clutchpoints.com\/celebrity\/ken-rosenthal-jeff-passan-blast-jeff-bezos-for-washington-post-job-cuts-including-sports-desk\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Washington Post newspaper is gutting their newsroom staff.<\/a> The Post is essentially getting rid of their entire sports section, which means no one will be around to cover the Commanders.<\/p>\n<p>Commanders head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/clutchpoints.com\/tag\/dan-quinn\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dan Quinn<\/a> left three open seats at his latest press conference, to commemorate the loss of the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JPFinlayNBCS\/status\/2021284334032863425\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">news reporters who covered his team<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst a couple of empty seats over to my right. I was absolutely bummed to hear about The Washington Post sports section,\u201d Quinn said, per NBC Sports in Washington. \u201c\u2026.Their presence is missed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Commanders leave 3 seats open for The Washington Post and Dan Quinn says what a loss it is to not have them covering the team <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Jo8I3usiHz\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/Jo8I3usiHz<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JPFinlayNBCS\/status\/2021284334032863425?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">February 10, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Along with the sports section cuts, The Washington Post also made layoffs in other areas of news including international news. Reporters were either reassigned to other news areas, or laid off.<\/p>\n<p>Commanders are one of several Washington DC teams showing respect to the newspaper employees<\/p>\n<p>The Commanders are not the only team in D.C. to show tribute to The Washington Post reporters. The news came as a great shock to others in the nation&#8217;s capital. Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery <a href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/nfl\/article\/washington-dc-sports-community-shows-support-in-wake-of-dismantled-washington-post-sports-section-202130981.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">paid tribute<\/a> to the Post&#8217;s former Caps reporter, Bailey Johnson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would be remiss not to say something about Bailey not being here today,\u201d Carbery said at a recent press conference, per Yahoo Sports. \u201cGetting to know her over the last 2 1\/2 years, yeah, I\u2019m just thinking about her. And also know wherever her next stop is, whether it\u2019s in the DC area or somewhere else, know she\u2019ll do a fantastic job. She\u2019s an incredible person and really, really good at what she does.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Several national sports journalists made their mark by first working at The Washington Post. That includes Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon, who co-host the ESPN sports talk show Pardon the Interruption. Wilbon was furious to hear that some of his former colleagues were losing their jobs.<\/p>\n<p>The reporters undoubtedly are grateful for the tribute shown to them by Quinn, and the other coaches. <a href=\"https:\/\/clutchpoints.com\/nfl\/washington-commanders\/dan-quinns-hires-will-put-commanders-in-playoffs-or-make-him-someone-elses-dc-in-2027\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Quinn has coached the Commanders since 2024<\/a>.
