Getsy\u2019s first stint with the Packers was in 2014, during Mike McCarthy\u2019s tenure as head coach, when Getsy served as an offensive quality control coach for two years before being promoted to wide receivers coach. In McCarthy\u2019s final year, Getsy was named offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach for Mississippi State, before joining LaFleur\u2019s first staff as the team\u2019s quarterbacks coach in 2019. He also added the passing game coordinator tag for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.<\/p>\n
When offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett left to take the Denver Broncos\u2019 head coaching opportunity in 2022, Getsy was actually LaFleur\u2019s first choice to be his next non-play-calling offensive coordinator. Then the Chicago Bears, who were willing to offer Getsy a play-calling opportunity, called. LaFleur allowed Getsy to walk for the play-calling job, an option that Sean McVay gave LaFleur in 2018. In place of Getsy, LaFleur hired Adam Stenavich to be his offensive coordinator. Stenavich is now the longest-tenured offensive coordinator in the league and was for the 2025 season, too.<\/p>\n
The Bears went 10-24 under Getsy\u2019s time as an offensive coordinator. He then took a play-calling job with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024, but was fired after a 2-7 start to the year. Midway through that year, LaFleur brought Getsy back as a defensive consultant. It\u2019s not uncommon for LaFleur to bring in coaches he\u2019s close with to reverse engineer schemes for his team. For example, former defensive coordinator Robert Saleh filled that role, telling LaFleur what opposing defenses were trying to accomplish as a Packers\u2019 offensive consultant.<\/p>\n
Last offseason, Getsy was hired under the title \u201coffensive assistant,\u201d which was interesting, considering that previous quarterbacks coach Tom Clements retired.
