The Buffalo Bills have re-signed two former players to new contracts. Quarterback Shane Beuchele and WR Jalen Virgil rejoin the Bills after previous stints with the team.<\/p>\n
Beuchele first signed in Buffalo in August 2023 when he was added to the practice squad. after being waived by the Kansas City Chiefs. He re-signed for the 2024 season but spent it on IR after a neck injury in August. He was released following the 2025 preseason but was back on the practice squad until the Chiefs signed him after injuries to Gardner Minshew and Patrick Mahomes. He was released in January and re-signed with the Bills\u2019 practice squad.<\/p>\n
The depth QB had a good training camp and preseason, with some thinking the Bills might move on from Mitch Trubisky as Josh Allen\u2019s backup to save money. He was 36\/46 for 380 yards and a touchdown in three games of action with no interceptions.<\/p>\n
Trubisky is a free agent, and with Josh Allen as the only QB under contract, this was a needed move to put a floor on the position heading into the offseason<\/p>\n
Virgil was also a member of the Bills\u2019 2024 practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster in November before being released in mid-December. He was active for seven games, playing 111 snaps in total on offense and 194 on special teams. He was waived by the Bills in August 2025 with an injury, then spent a week on the Cardinals practice squad in November.<\/p>\n
With Tyrell Shavers unlikely to play in 2026 with a late-season knee injury, Virgil enters as a player with experience in the system beside Mecole Hardman and Stephen Gosnell, two reserve\/future signings from January. Keon Coleman, Curtis Samuel, and Josh Palmer are three \u201cestablished\u201d receivers on the roster, but there are no guarantees that any of the three make it to the regular season. The only WR lock is Khalil Shakir.<\/p>\n
