The transition Joshua Shanklin is about to undertake as a junior college standout making the jump to Power 4 football isn\u2019t an easy one, but he\u2019s well-positioned to make it count.<\/p>\n

Shanklin, who committed to ASU earlier this month<\/a>, was viewed as the top edge rusher to come out of the junior college ranks, per 247 Sports.<\/a> His production of 14.5 sacks, 19 tackles for loss, four fumbles forced and six passes defensed speaks for itself.<\/p>\n

\u201cReally just taking what I\u2019ve learned from junior college to applying the other coaching that I\u2019m going to get from Arizona State,\u201d Shanklin told the\u00a0State of the Sun Devils Podcast<\/a>. \u201cJust keep staying hungry, like I know some players, when they get to a certain level, they get comfortable.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut me \u2026 I feel like I worked my butt off just to get here, so really just taking advantage of just everything that\u2019s coming to me right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound EDGE detailed how he spent much of his high school career playing receiver, but his time at one school was derailed by COVID-19. A transfer ahead of his senior season set him up for the move to defense, and he posted double-digit sacks.<\/p>\n

He circled a motto head coach Kenny Dillingham has often used in Tempe: \u201cHave more fun working harder than anyone in the country.\u201d That\u2019s why committing to ASU just felt right.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really just liked how the coaching staff was just talking about how their culture is strong,\u201d Shanklin said. \u201cAnd really just seeing that it\u2019s just like that, they know what they\u2019re talking about and the culture was just great.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis area is nice. Like, I feel like Arizona State was probably the best fit for me as far as coaching staff, culture-wise and education, stuff like that.\u201d<\/p>\n
