The Chiefs’ tight end, 36, who recently wrapped his 13th season<\/a> with the team and is contemplating retirement<\/a>, opened up about the stadium news during a Wednesday, Feb. 11 episode of New Heights<\/a> when speaking with his brother and co-host, Jason Kelce<\/a>.<\/p>\n Kevin Sabitus\/Getty<\/p>\n The topic arose while reflecting on their Super Bowl 2026 experience in San Francisco over the weekend, when the Chiefs star and retired Philadelphia Eagles player made their presence known at parties and events throughout the seven-day stretch of football fun.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n Jason noted the inconvenience of Levi’s Stadium being in Santa Clara, Calif., which is about a 45 minute drive from San Francisco, the central hub for all things Super Bowl \u2014 Pro Bowl, Radio Row, media opportunities and more \u2014 over the course of the week.<\/p>\n While the distance between cities was viewed as a negative for most attendees, Travis recognized the advantages of the stadium being on the “outskirts” of the city for team owners \u2014 and cited the Chiefs’ stadium relocation from the state of Missouri to Kansas.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n “The owners get so much more opportunity [by] getting to the outskirts of the city, and it\u2019s hard to argue with those opportunities,” he said during the podcast episode. “We\u2019re dealing with it right now in Kansas City.”<\/p>\n Nick Tre. That\u2019s one of the greatest opportunities you could ever get as an owner,” he continued. “I think it\u2019s going to be unbelievable once it\u2019s finally set in stone.”<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n Despite the advantages, Travis opened up about the bittersweet feeling he has about the move.<\/p>\n “It is going to be kind of heartbreaking knowing that the Chiefs are going to move away from Arrowhead and that Missouri side of Kansas City,” he said, adding, “It\u2019s part of the old professional sports. It is a business at the end of the day.”<\/p>\n Cooper Neill\/Getty <\/p>\n On Dec. 22, 2025, lawmakers in Kansas unanimously agreed to fund what is projected to be a $3 billion domed stadium, offering to cover up to 70% of the cost of the stadium and accompanying district, according to\u00a0The Kansas City Star,<\/a>\u00a0The Topeka Capital-Journal<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0the Associated Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n AP reported that the bonds will be paid off with state sales and liquor tax revenue generated in an area around the stadium.<\/p>\n The Chiefs have played at Arrowhead Stadium since the team\u2019s inception in 1972. The team’s lease with Jackson County, Missouri expires at the end of the 2031 season.<\/p>\n The projected location for the new stadium is about 25 miles to the west of Arrowhead, near the Kansas Speedway and The Legends entertainment district.<\/p>\n The franchise originally leaned towards making $800 million in renovations to the outdated Arrowhead, but Missouri taxpayers voted down a proposal last May to fund the efforts.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n According to AP, Chiefs owner and CEO Clark Hunt has long been a proponent of staying put in Missouri, a beloved place for his late father, Chiefs founder Lamar Hunt, and an iconic landmark in football history.<\/p>\n![\"Travis](\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/12dda067901a24fc7536cf6b105987a3.jpeg\"\/)
