ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit believes things are looking up for Underwood and the Michigan offense as Underwood enters his sophomore season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">\u201cI think he\u2019s going to have a massive jump, you would expect,\u201d Herbstreit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/college\/michigan-wolverines\/news\/kirk-herbstreit-expects-a-massive-jump-from-bryce-underwood-in-2026-hes-gonna-take-off\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a> on Crain &amp; Cone. \u201cThere are times when, if you\u2019re just evaluating him, you have to be careful of just walking away with really concrete thoughts on a guy that\u2019s playing as an 18-year-old and an offense that would take two steps forward, one step back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Herbstreit is correct in his analysis of an up-and-down Michigan offense, which he said \u201cdidn\u2019t really have any receivers.\u201d Michigan ranked No. 58 in total offense and No. 105 in passing offense.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">In Michigan\u2019s last game of six games of the season, Underwood threw for four touchdowns with seven interceptions, all while being sacked 12 times. In all, Underwood threw for 2,428 yards, with 11 touchdowns, nine interceptions and a 60.3% completion rate, along with 393 rushing yards and nine scores.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">A new coaching staff, a new scheme and a year of experience should all do Underwood wonders. Underwood now has offensive coordinator Jason Beck, who was the OC at Utah last season, and had major success with dual-threat quarterback Devon Dampier, who threw for 24 passing touchdowns and five interceptions with 835 yards rushing and 10 scores.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">\u201cI think he\u2019s going to kind of take off this offseason,\u201d Herbstreit said. \u201cI think they\u2019re going to have an offseason to study him and where his sweetspot is, where he can really play well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Last month, Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham made similar comments about Underwood\u2019s trajectory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">\u201cThe ceiling is so high,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maizenbrew.com\/football\/103180\/kyle-whittingham-bryce-underwood-rich-eisen-michigan-wolverines-football-2026-season\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Whittingham said<\/a>. \u201cJason Beck, our offensive coordinator, is an absolute master at developing the quarterback. Played quarterback. Quarterbacks that he has trained and worked with have all had success. \u2026 He\u2019s (Underwood) in good hands here at Michigan, I can promise you that.
