{"id":751019,"date":"2026-02-14T06:54:23","date_gmt":"2026-02-14T06:54:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/751019\/"},"modified":"2026-02-14T06:54:23","modified_gmt":"2026-02-14T06:54:23","slug":"woody-johnson-gets-win-with-nflpa-report-card-ruling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/751019\/","title":{"rendered":"Woody Johnson gets win with NFLPA report card ruling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Score a victory for the Jets and Woody Johnson.<\/p>\n<p>Because of alleged suspect information-gathering and grading methodologies, Johnson led the charge by NFL owners to debunk the Players Association\u2019s 11-category \u201cTeam Report Cards\u201d that were publicized the last three offseasons.<\/p>\n<p>An independent arbitrator agreed in ruling that the Report Cards violate the collective bargaining agreement and also issuing an order preventing the disclosure of any future Report Cards, according to a memo sent Friday by the league to all 32 teams.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson received <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/02\/26\/sports\/jets-woody-johnson-ranks-dead-last-among-owners-in-nflpa-report-card\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the only \u201cF\u201d grade<\/a> among team owners last season and the Jets ranked No. 29 out of 32 across the board, though that assessment can be framed differently after the NFLPA\u2019s counsel admitted, per the memo, during the grievance proceedings that the union:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 \u201ccherry-picked which topics and responses to include (or not) in the Report Cards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38483979\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/jets-owner-woody-johnson-looks-116935528.jpg\" alt=\"Jets owner Woody Johnson at a game.\" class=\"wp-image-38483979\"  \/>Jets owner Woody Johnson. Bill Kostroun\/New York Post<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 had its staffers write the summaries and that \u201cplayers had no role in drafting the commentary included in the Report Cards.\u201d For example, the Jets\u2019 2025 report card read that \u201crather than addressing concerns, players believed that management responded to (2024) feedback by making conditions worse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 \u201cselected which anonymous individual player quotations to include (or exclude entirely) to support its chosen narrative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 \u201cdetermined the weight of each topic and the resulting impact on the alphabetical grades it assigned.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are pleased with the decision from the arbitrator, upholding the parties\u2019 collective bargaining agreement and prohibiting the NFLPA from disparaging our clubs and individuals through \u2018report cards\u2019 allegedly based on data and methodologies that it has steadfastly refused to disclose,\u201d an NFL spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>The Jets\u2019 lowest grade (D+, ranking No. 26 among the teams) outside of Johnson\u2019s was for the locker room, which was <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/22\/sports\/jets-locker-room-makeover-comes-with-a-2000-pound-wow-factor\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">entirely revamped<\/a> before last season and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/22\/sports\/quinnen-williams-review-of-jets-renovated-locker-room-its-super-dope\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">received high praise from players<\/a>. Johnson already had commissioned the locker-room renovation before the Report Cards were released.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn essence,\u201d the memo read, \u201cthe record established that the Report Cards were designed by the union to advance its interests under the guise of a scientific exercise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NFLPA said that roughly 77 percent of its membership took part in the survey from Aug. 26, 2024, through Nov. 20, 2024.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38484024\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/new-york-jets-practice-nfl-16568401.jpg\" alt=\"The New York Jets practice at their training facility, with players in white and green jerseys visible on the grass field.\" class=\"wp-image-38484024\"  \/>The Jets\u2019 facility in Florham Park, N.J. AP<\/p>\n<p>Johnson called the results \u201ctotally bogus\u201d last March. How so?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow they collected the information, who they collected it from \u2014 it\u2019s supposed to be a process where we have representatives and they have representatives so we know it\u2019s an honest survey,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cAnd that was violated, in my opinion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere a lot of owners that looked at this survey and said this is not fair, not balanced, it\u2019s not every player, it\u2019s not even representative of the players.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The arbitrator agreed.<\/p>\n<p>One survey component that will remain, however, is the players\u2019 opinions regarding the adequacy of medical care provided, per the memo. The NFL\u2019s Management Council and the NFLPA will continue to design and conduct such a survey in the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe program is not going away,\u201d the NFLPA said in a statement. \u201cThe ruling upholds our right to survey players and share the results with players and clubs.
