SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) \u2014 Patti Edwards, the wife of Hall of Fame BYU football coach LaVell Edwards, died at age 93.<\/p>\n
BYU Cougars officials announced her death Saturday, saying Edwards passed away the day before at 93 years old. They did not provide the cause of her death.<\/p>\n
“Revered and loved by all who knew her, Patti lived a life that inspired and influenced people for good beyond measure,” the tribute read. “She made a lasting impact not only on her family and the BYU football program but also within college football at large, leaving a legacy of leadership and love that will forever honor her name.”<\/p>\n
Edwards was married to the legendary BYU coach LaVell Edwards, the namesake of LaVell Edwards Stadium. <\/p>\n
She also contributed to the BYU football legacy, in part, by becoming one of the founders of the American Football Coaches’ Wives Association, which continues decades later with more than 3,000 members.<\/p>\n
BYU held a moment of silence during Saturday\u2019s basketball game to honor Patti Edwards and her lasting impact on BYU football.<\/p>\n
Patti Edwards was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 2016. She was survived by a daughter, two sons, 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.<\/p>\n
