The Los Angeles Rams are big fans of Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson, possibly the second player at his position to get drafted in April, according to ESPN\u2019s Louis Riddick.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know they like Ty Simpson and his skillset and his makeup is exactly what they\u2019re looking for,\u201d said Riddick over the weekend. Should the Rams use one of their two first round picks on Simpson and start the process of developing a successor to Matthew Stafford who isn\u2019t Stetson Bennett?<\/p>\n
You could hardly call Simpson an NFL draft prospect a year ago and he was one of a few quarterbacks in contention to be the next quarterback at Alabama, eventually winning that job in the fall. Simpson ended up throwing 28 touchdowns and 5 interceptions in Kalen DeBoer\u2019s offense.<\/p>\n
In his first three seasons with the Crimson Tide, Simpson had never thrown a touchdown.<\/p>\n
The 23-year-old quarterback was advised by many to go back to college and continue to gain the experience he never had before last season. Without many other quarterbacks in the class worthy of an early pick, the 6\u20192 Simpson decided to take his chances.<\/p>\n
The son of a college head coach, Simpson could be a good player for Dave Ragone to develop behind the scenes. But given how much time he\u2019s already spent behind the scenes and his relatively mundane season at Alabama (I mean, he\u2019s good, he obviously didn\u2019t blow the doors off of anyone\u2019s expectations) is he worth a first round pick?<\/p>\n
